5 Downloading the data

• Go to the Portal on the PASEC website

• After completing a short survey, you’ll be able to download PASEC data.

• Download the PASEC 2019 data and documentation.

• This is a compressed (zip) file. Unzip it. The zip file contains student-level datasets for Grade 2 and Grade 6, together with separate school, teacher, and classroom files. The international datasets (suffix _INT) pool all fourteen countries; separate national files are also included. This guide uses the international student files.

• The datasets are in the Internationale\PASEC2019_INT_STATA folder.

Create a folder on your computer for data, e.g., C:/pasec_data/.

Save PASEC2019_GRADE2_INT.dta and PASEC2019_GRADE6_INT.dta into your working directory.
